Summary:
With his tight leather pants and a sharp edge that makes him dangerous, Jet Keller is every girl’s rock and roll fantasy. But Ayden Cross is done walking on the wild side with bad boys. She doesn’t want to give in to the heat she sees in Jet’s dark, haunted eyes. She’s afraid of getting burned from the sparks of their spontaneous combustion, even as his touch sets her on fire.

Jet can’t resist the Southern Belle with mile-long legs in cowboy boots who defies his every expectation. Yet the closer he feels to Ayden, the less he seems to know her. While he’s tempted to get under her skin and undo her in every way, he knows firsthand what happens to two people with very different ideas about relationships.

Will the blaze burn into an enduring love. . . or will it consume their dreams and turn them to ashes?
MY REVIEW:
Any time I want to blow through books fast these are the kind of juicy reads I reach for. I highly enjoyed Rule (Marked Men #1) and knew that I would equally eat up the rest of the Marked Men series. Jet doesn't disappoint with his tattoos, muscled abs and tight jeans. Although personally, skinny jeans on guys don't really do it for me. Blech! As far as my favorite among the Marked Men guys, Jet doesn't rank very high, simply from his fashion choices. Rule is still my favorite (though admittedly there's more of the guys to read about yet).

Jet is the lead singer of a local heavy metal band in Denver, Colorado and as great as a musician and songwriter he is, he has no desire to tour around the world and sign with a major label. He is just fine being a local star and the amount of women waiting in line are in no shortage.

Jet and Ayden run in the same circle of friends, and with her southern drawl and good girl persona she is someone he views as way out of his league, seeing as how she isn't the kind of girl who would be okay with a one night stand. So the friend zone is where they find themselves. That seems for the best because their future plans are entirely different.

As always with these kind of stories, both have a past they aren't willing to share with the other one and as such disaster looms in the distance. This always seems to happen around the 75%-80% mark of the book. That much is predictable. It's never bothered me though. It is just something I've come to expect. You can't have a great New Adult contemporary romance without the angst anyway, right?

Favorite Quotes:
"...it's like you're in heat or something. I don't know how you guys ignore all the snap, crackle, and pop that happens whenever you get within breathing distance of each other, but I'm telling you it's exhausting to watch."

He might think he was broken, but I knew the truth - that he was funny, sweet, and undeniably talented and there were more than enough pieces of him at my disposal if I wanted to try to put him back together.

"It's really easy to think that these guys are just one way because of how they look and how they talk, but once they let you in it's an entirely different ball game."

"No one else has ever come close and you're the only one I have ever wanted to offer it to."

"Love isn't perfect. It's hard work and sometimes it's more effort to be in love than it is to just run away."

Final Rating: 3.5 stars

  1. See...it goes both ways! :) I'm definitely not a fan of the tight, skinny jeans myself. But....Jet's still hot.

  3. I rated that one higher than you did. I gave it 4 stars. You mentioned a while back that I'd rated several lower than you--ones that you really enjoyed. I was just saying that it goes both ways sometimes. :)
