Summary:
The #1 New York Times bestselling author of It Ends with Us—delivers a tour de force novel about a troubled marriage and the one old forgotten promise that might be able to save it.MY REVIEW:
Quinn and Graham’s perfect love is threatened by their imperfect marriage. The memories, mistakes, and secrets that they have built up over the years are now tearing them apart. The one thing that could save them might also be the very thing that pushes their marriage beyond the point of repair.
All Your Perfects is a profound novel about a damaged couple whose potential future hinges on promises made in the past. This is a heartbreaking page-turner that asks: Can a resounding love with a perfect beginning survive a lifetime between two imperfect people?
The story goes between present day events and those of the past. The main characters Quinn and Graham, during scenes from the past, meet during unfortunate events and do not reconnect until later. The timing of their initial few meetings are just not right for various reasons. However, in present day events they are married and dealing with struggles, of which they are not communicating about. We do get to see happier times by seeing into their past of how they met and fell in love. The rest of the journey the reader will have to see for them self to keep this review spoiler free.
One word to describe my final thoughts with this book......relatable. It was painful to read at times due to how much I related to certain scenarios. So much of what is written in this story is just pure real-life. I love my happily-ever-afters, but lets be honest, a lot of those stories are not relatabale because they typically are not real life. This story hit deep because of how real their marriage struggles are.
My take away after finishing the story is the importance of choosing to marry someone based solely on your relationship with them. Not on what may come as a result of being married to that person. God only knows what the future holds for your marriage and it may or may not include children. Yes, you both should be open prior to getting married about whether you want children, but you also must be open about your commitment to each other whether or not you are blessed with children one day. Communication is vital in a marriage.
Though not one of my top favorites of Colleen's books, this is still a solid read.
Top Favorite Quotes:
"If you only shine light on your flaws, all your perfects will dim."
"We're all full of flaws. Hundreds of them. They're like tiny holes all over our skin. And like your fortune said, sometimes we shine too much light on our own flaws."
"When you meet someone who is good for you, they won't fill you with insecurities by focusing on your flaws. They'll fill you with inspiration, because they'll focus on all the best parts of you."
No matter how much you love someone - the capacity of that love is meaningless if it outweighs your capacity to forgive.
"Our marriage hasn't been perfect. No marriage is perfect. There were times when she gave up on us. There were even more times when I gave up on us. The secret to our longevity is that we never gave up at the same time."
"How can something exist that is that magnificent and powerful without something even more magnificent and powerful creating it?"
Gratitude is born in the struggle.
I realize now that sometimes two people can lose their hope or their desire or their happiness, but losing all those things doesn't mean you've lost.
