Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly post hosted by The Broke and the Bookish.
This week's topic is "Top Ten Books I'd Want on a Deserted Island".
1. The Bible.
This has to be my first choice. 2 Peter 1:3 - "...God has given us everything we need for living a godly life. We have received all of this by coming to know him, the one who called us to himself by means of his marvelous glory and excellence." 1 Timothy 4:8 - "While physical training has some value, training in holy living is useful for everything. It has promise for this life now and the life to come."
I know NOTHING about camping, lighting a fire, hunting for food, building shelter, etc... I'd be absolutely lost and probably dead in a matter of days unless I had a reference manual for survival in the wilderness. A book such as this is an absolute MUST!
Granted, I've not read the book, only seen the movie, but perhaps the inspiration of this fictional family after being shipwrecked on an island would help me in my quest to survive.
Now, that I've actually learned how to hunt and survive, I think I'd need to learn how to cook whatever it is I'm killing.
I'm guessing there are no doctors around, so I'm sure I will need medical help at some point or another.
Now that I'm fairly certain I have half a chance of surviving on this deserted island, if I have no one to talk to, I will need the companionship of some of my most loved characters to keep me entertained. I'll need some laughter and the memory of love. So my remaining choices will hopefully aid in filling those empty spaces. And I'm cheating by listing series instead of just one book.
5. Mark of the Lion trilogy by Francine Rivers.
At a time like this, I need to be reminded of extreme circumstances and how faith can carry you through.
6. A Song of Ice and Fire series by George R.R. Martin.
These books are so long it will take me a long while to get through them, which would help pass the time. Plus they are so rich in fantasy that I would be able to escape mentally into a very detailed world.
7. The Twilight series by Stephenie Meyer.
Cliche perhaps, but these books were what got me back into reading 6 years ago. They must go with me.
8. Harry Potter series by J.K. Rowling
Another must have series among my favorites in fantasy to help me pass the time.
9. The Black Dagger Brotherhood series by J.R. Ward
Now I must have some paranormal love stories because after all, they are my favorite type of love story, and these are fairly lengthy books and since there are 11 of them with more coming out, it would take me awhile to get through them all.
What, oh what, should get my tenth spot....that's a hard choice. I've got to go with my new favorite bad boy character, who has so much sarcasm and wit that it oozes out of his body language, not just his mouth.
10. Lux series by Jennifer L. Armentrout
Yes, this current list would not be complete without some Daemon thrown in.
That completes my list of Top Ten Books I'd Want on a Deserted Island.
Which ones make your list? Would you include any of the ones I picked?

I love how practical the first half of your list is. I wish I'd thought to throw in some kind of survival guide. Being stranded on an island would give me a good chance at reading A Song of Fire and Ice, I should have totally included that in my list!

Since the topic wasn't "what are your favorite books you'd want to have on a deserted island" I figured I'd go with the route of what I would need on a deserted island. Ha!
