Armchair BEA Day 1: Introductions

Welcome to Day 1 of Armchair BEA.  Today's activity post is Introductions.
Each blog participating will be introducing themselves and their blog to everyone.

Today's challenge is to introduce myself and my blog by answering 5 questions of my choice from a list of 11.

1. Please tell us a little bit about yourself: Who are you?  How long have you been blogging?  Why did you get into blogging?

My name is Holly and I've been blogging since October of 2012.  I have been a big reader for most of my life but got back heavily involved in reading during the excitement over the Twilight books.  About a year prior to starting my blog my sister-n-law (Somewhere Only We Know) had started a blog and she had so much fun with it I decided I had to have my own too.  That was 7 months ago!

Aside from being a reader turned book blogger, I'm also a wife (celebrating my 15th anniversary later this summer) and I'm a Mom to a now 6th grader and 4th grader.  In addition to my own babies, I am also a Nanny (since October 4th of 2012).  He is 11 months old but since his Mom is the nurse of our school and has off when the kids do, my Nanny job is on hold until school starts back August 13th.

Below is a recent picture of me and my 2 sweeties taken on their last day of school.

2. Where in the world are you blogging from?  Tell a random fact or something special about your current location.  Feel free to share pictures.
Alabama "The Beautiful" is where I call home.  I was born here, raised in Texas, and moved back halfway through my tenth grade year.  Married my best friend who lived about 3 hours away from me, but still in AL, and have been here ever since.  Most of our families live around the Mobile area, but our parents and my husbands sisters all live near us.  Having family close by is a HUGE blessing!

Something special about my current location.....I got nothing....  Honestly if I could hand pick where we lived it would be on the beach somewhere in Florida.  Thankfully we are about 3.5 - 4 hours drive from the nearest beach so it's not that far away.

3. Have you previously participated in Armchair BEA?  What brought you back for another year?  If you have not previously participated, what drew you to the event?
This is my first time participating in Armchair BEA.  One day I will LOVE the opportunity to go to NYC to experience BEA, but that's just not in the financial cards right now.  When I came across this event it was a no-brainer of whether I would participate.  I have zero expectations since I have nothing to compare it to and am just along for the fun ride this week.

4. What are you currently reading?  and/or What is your favorite book you have read in 2013?
Currently I am reading Shadow and Bone by Leigh Bardugo.  My hubby gave me a hardback copy of this for Valentine's Day this year and I'm just now getting around to reading it.  I have high hopes for it because of all the positive reviews and comments I've seen.  I'm only in chapter 2 so I haven't formed an opinion yet.

And as for my favorite book I've read in 2013....how do I choose just 1?  (Biting nails as I try to only pick one.....)  I just can't do it so I'll give you 5 of my favorite 2013 reads.  Hopeless by Colleen Hoover, Clockwork Princess by Cassandra Clare, The 5th Wave by Rick Yancey, Fallen Too Far by Abbi Glines and Waiting for Mercy by Shannon Dermott.

5. What literary location would you most like to visit and why?
I'm a sucker for any story that takes place in London (think The Mortal Instruments and The Infernal Devices), or Rome, or Paris, really any European country.  Perhaps it's because I've never been to Europe, but those countries hold so much romance and intrigue to me.  In reality, they are probably very similar to where I live with exception to the amount of history from being older countries than the US.  One day though I hope I get to see and experience life in Europe.

Thanks for stopping by!
Leave me a link to your post so I can learn about you too.

  1. I would one day love to attend the actual BEA as well, but Armchair Bea is just as good, and bonus - we can be comfy in our pj's all day if we want and still interact with other book lovers!

This is my second time participating and I loved it last year.

  6. I have The 5th Wave and Hopeless on my to read shelf for next month so I"m excited to see you liked those a lot. And Shadow and Bone is amazing! Hope you're enjoying it. I've never been to Alabama or anywhere around there. I want to travel a lot some day and see more of the US. I've only really been on the east coast and Colorado. As for travel books have you read Anna and the French Kiss or Wanderlove? Those are my two favorites!

  13. Twilight is what got me back into reading as an adult. If it weren't for those books, I don't know if I ever would have rediscovered the love of reading I had as a kid. I'd love to visit London one day, and I have an extra fondness for books that take place there, like The Infernal Devices.

    Thanks for stopping by!
