Day 1, Part 2: Classic Literature (Classics)
"Why, reader, do you love classics?"
"Tell us all the reasons you love classic literature. What are your favorite classics? If you could give a list of classics to someone who claims to hate them to make them change their mind, what would be on it? How would you convince them to give classics a try? And why do you keep coming back to those old favorites?"
Okay, get ready to let the criticism fly....but I'm not really a fan of classic literature, not to READ at least. I've tried reading Pride and Prejudice and not only was it word for word (nearly) verbatim of the Colin Firth version of the movie, but the language was so hard for me to get past and because of that I never finished it. However, I am a fan of classic literature turned into movies....does that count? No? Well...can we still be friends? haha
I will say that I do love how most authors gain inspiration from the classics and I really enjoy when they intertwine quotes from various classic literature in their own books. Tho I personally might not ever read them (Tale of Two Cities, Great Expectations, The Great Gatsby, P&P, Jane Eyre, Les Miserables, and the list goes on) I fully support classic literature especially when they come to the big screen as movie adaptations.
Be gentle on me.....not all book readers (and bloggers) are fans themselves of the classics.
I do like classics. And yeah, we can still be friends....I guess...

On a totally unrelated topic-- I love your cat!, so cute! Is it a he or she? Name? Kitty's do love to read. I know my Sasha loves to lay on the book I'm reading (not any others) I like to think it's because she likes my taste and wants to read along ;) haha. And, I see you're reading Shadow and Bone? I heard it's wonderfully good! What do you think? I definitely wanna read it sometime soonish.

No need to feel guilty about not enjoying the classics. I enjoy classic lit, but don't go out of my way to read within the genre.
ReplyDeleteI love classic movie adaptations, too! My favourites are pretty much any movie that's based on a Jane Austen novel.
I could never get into Pride & Prejudice either. I'm not a huge fan of that Austen book.
ReplyDeleteWith certain classic literature books, I am willing to watch the movies, but the books, nope. I feel like I've heard the story so much that I don't feel the need to actually read the written work. Lol.
I'm a little intimidated by classics but slowly I am opening myself up to reading them more.
ReplyDeleteLike Meg, many of the classics can be intimidating. I am sure that is why I never read Jane Austen until fairly recently. Once I did, well, look what happened! LOL! Not sure if the world is ready for more sequels to classic books, though, so maybe I should be careful which ones I read. :-)
ReplyDeleteI have a hard time enjoying the classics too, except I did love children's classics like The Secret Garden. But I agree, I do love to see them made into productions! If I love a movie very, very much - like Anna Karenina, then I try to read the book. Anna was hard to read but well worth it.
