Q. How do you handle a book you don't like? Do you DNF or do you power through?
I'm not opposed to DNF a book, but I've never actually done it. In the life span of my blog I've only lowly rated 2 books as 2 stars and one of which was a Netgalley ARC. I think that the reason I don't come across more books that I might would rate really low is because I don't even consider a book that has less than 3 stars on Goodreads. Typically the rating on Goodreads is a decent guide as to whether I would enjoy it or not. I am slightly OCD so the thought of not finishing a book or series I've started eats away at me....so I usually just power through and try to find a redeeming quality or something positive I liked about the story.

I find that I have different tastes than a lot of people on Goodreads, so that method doesn't work for me. I regularly DNF books that are 4 and 5 stars there.

I try not to DNF a book, but sometimes it is not always an easy thing to do. Nice answer.
ReplyDeleteWow, that is surprising! A 4 or 5 star book on Goodreads I typically would rate high as well. It's those 3 star books that sometimes I rate higher.

I recently read a book that I really had a hard time pushing through. My determination to not DNF is all that kept me from putting it down.

I always continue through on books, no matter what. I'm an old GFC follower.
ReplyDeleteNew GFC follower - I always try and power through books, but lately I have had to many on my TBR to continue with a bad book.
ReplyDeleteYeah, I've never written a DNF review, and I don't think I've DNFd a book since I started blogging. I try to power through, but sometimes I can't! It's too awful!
