Summary:
Dear Opportunist,

You thought you could take him from me, but you lost. Now, that he's mine I'll do anything to keep him. Do you doubt me? I have everything that was supposed to be yours. In case you were wondering; he doesn't ever think about you anymore. I won't let him go....ever.

Dirty Red

Leah Smith finally has everything she has ever wanted. Except she doesn't. Her marriage feels more like a loan than a lifelong commitment, and the image she has worked so hard to build is fraying before her eyes. With a new role and a past full of secrets, Leah must decide how far she is willing to go to keep what she has stolen.
MY REVIEW:
Man, oh man. I don't think I've ever read a book where I despised the main character THIS MUCH! Leah is a red-headed, spoiled, selfish brat of a woman. And she has learned the art of manipulation going all the way back to her childhood.

She's lied, cheated, lied some more and finally has snagged the guy of her dreams, Caleb Drake. She fights dirty to keep what she views as hers. They've been together for five years, had many ups and downs (okay maybe more downs than ups) but everything about her and their relationship is built on lies. Now she's stuck with a baby she doesn't want, and is fighting to keep up appearances to save her marriage. She can't lose the one good thing she has.

Caleb is no saint either. The problem is that he thought he could forget and move on from the one girl who stole his heart and soul. He settled for someone that wasn't her after she left him, three times. The person he has become is not someone he recognizes.

This story is told primarily from the POV of Leah and it alternates from events in the past and events in the present. What unfolds just makes you cringe even deeper. If you enjoyed The Opportunist then this story will give you a glimpse into the not so glamorous other woman.

Favorite Quotes:
I was a sidewalk toss away - a grimy piece of metal stuck to the bottom of the cup holder, couch cushions, old wallets and under the fridge between a shriveled grape and an unidentified hair - that was me.

"You are the single most offensive woman I have ever met, you know that?"

Final Rating - 3.5 stars

  1. Is the 3.5 star rating because you didn't like Leah? Or was there something else that made you struggle with this one? I hate Leah but I loved how Tarryn was able to keep me interested even though she was despicable.

I always go with my first gut instinct when it comes to my final rating. I didn't enjoy Leah and Caleb together and so reading a book about the two of them was good - a 3.5 star rating is a good book to me (see my rating scores on the left side of the page) but them together irritated me more than it brought me enjoyment. Thanks for commenting!
