Armchair BEA Day 1: Introductions and Literature

Welcome to day 1 of Armchair BEA 2014. Today's activity post is two parts: Introductions and Literature.
Each blog participating will be introducing themselves and their blog to everyone.

PART 1: INTRODUCTIONS

1. Please tell us a little about yourself. Who are you? How long have you been blogging? Why did you get into blogging? Where in the world are you blogging from?
Hi! I'm Holly and I'm a book addict. PROUD OF IT TOO! (wink wink) For those who've visited my blog before this isn't any new information. But for any new friends visiting for the first time, I've been blogging since October 2012. I started blogging after watching my SNL blog for a year. She and I shared a lot of the same tastes in books and I decided to jump on the bandwagon - one that I very much still enjoy. I read books that interest me, not books that are necessarily the "popular" or "critically acclaimed". I have learned the careful art of only requesting books or purchasing books that have 3.5 stars or higher in genres that I enjoy. I don't venture out of this very often. I have limited time to read - as we all do - and even more limited time to blog - so choosing books that I will most likely enjoy is crucial. To be honest, I don't have time to pick a random book that falls in the "just average" category by many.

As for where in the world I blog from, that would be here:
This would be considered the deep south. Yes, I say "ya'll", however I also say "soda" versus "coke" - unless I'm drinking Coke, but I prefer Diet Pepsi - but that's a whole other topic.

2. Describe your blog in just one sentence. Then, list your social details - Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, etc... - so we can connect more online.
Words Fueled by Love is a book blog featuring mostly New Adult and Young Adult literature, occasional giveaways, reviews on books and books-made-into-movies, oh, and pictures of kitties too.

Click the link to be taken to my profiles:
(I've only recently added my blog on FB and would appreciate any likes there)

3. What genre do you read the most? I love to read because __________.
I read Young Adult and New Adult books - as I've already mentioned. Within those categories I read romance, paranormal, dystopian, fantasy, sci-fy, supernatural, post-apocalyptic, zombie horror, contemporary. I feel like I have a wide range of what I like over what I don't like.

I love to read because I love to imagine and pretend and drift off to other places and times and worlds. I love to read because I love to become someone else and go on a journey each time I open the pages of a book. I love to read because it feeds my mind and my imagination.

4. What was your favorite book read last year? What's your favorite book so far this year?
Favorite books last year...Waiting for Mercy by Shannon Dermott, Fallen Too Far by Abbi Glines, Beautiful Disaster by Jamie McGuire, The Sea of Tranquility by Katja Millay, Hopeless by Colleen Hoover, The 5th Wave by Rick Yancey, Ten Tiny Breaths by K.A. Tucker, Inhuman by Kat Falls, Elite by Rachel Van Dyken, Eyes of Ember and Scored Treachery by Rebecca Ethington, Ruin by Rachel Van Dyken (just to name a few...)

Ooh, favorite book so far this year....I can't narrow it down to one cause there are several I have really, really enjoyed. Alienated by Melissa Landers, Bitter Sweet Love and White Hot Kiss by Jennifer L. Armentrout, The World Without a Future by Nazarea Andrews, Mud Vein by Tarryn Fisher, and Push by Claire Wallis.

5. What book would you love to see as a movie?
For an Adult series I'd love to see as a movie it would definitely be The Black Dagger Brotherhood by J.R. Ward. (They brought Game of Thrones and True Blood to life - so why not?!)

For YA I think the Grisha Trilogy by Leigh Bardugo would make a great movie. Lots of rich colors and the costumes would be fantastic! Also Under the Never Sky would be a cool movie - if the special effects were done well.

For Christian Fiction I would LOVE to see Redeeming Love by Francine Rivers and The Mark of the Lion trilogy by Francine Rivers made into movies.

For Contemporary books I would love to see Beautiful Disaster by Jamie McGuire, Slammed by Colleen Hoover or Hopeless - all of these would be wonderful on the big screen - but bring a box of tissues!

For NA I would highly enjoy either the Sea Breeze series by Abbi Glines as a TV series or the Fallen Too Far series.

PART 2: LITERATURE
When I hear the word literature I think "anything written down in a book". Yes, it can be classic, but it can also be contemporary or non-fiction. My favorite literature though is YA and NA fiction. I'm not much for non-fiction. BORING. And classic literature - I don't usually make it past half way. Why read if it's not bringing me joy?! I've been out of school for a long time so I'm going to read what makes ME happy and not force myself to make my way through a self-help book or non-fiction book or even a fictional book not in my preferred genre if it doesn't really interest me.

Great literature is anything that can make me FEEL. I want to find myself relating in some way to what the characters are thinking and feeling and if an author does a fantastic job, I become that character while I'm immersed within the book. I take the philosophy that any book - fiction particularly since that's what I read primarily - can teach me things. And so I try to learn something from the books I read. Perhaps its a few new words to add to my vocabulary (ever read books that use a different language by one of the characters or a word of the day?) or maybe it's the advice given by a character in a book, or maybe it's the way a character can open up and be real with someone. Whatever it is, I try to take something away from each book I read. A lessons learned mentality.

Thanks for stopping by!
Leave me a link to your Day 1 post so I can learn about you too!

  1. I liked Yancy's Monstrumologist series, but The 5th Wave seemed too YA for my middle school students. I tend more toward middle grade books, and also more toward realistic fiction, since that's what my students ask for. Looks like you are very thorough in covering the genres you like! Have fun at Armchair BEA.

  2. Loved reading your intro, Holly! Another girl from the South here (Southwest, really...Texas). I'm all about "y'all" and my son has recently broken me of saying "Coke" because he says soda. lol Happy Armchair BEA! Thrilled to be cheering with ya!

  4. I love how you describe literature, that great literature is anything that can make you feel. I have a tendency to think classics when I hear the word "literature" but you're absolutely right. That's really what great literature is, the books that make me really feel.

  5. Hi Holly! It is nice to meet you! I love your introduction. I am also in the south: NW Florida. But like you I also don't call all soda "Coke" only when it is actually Coke.
Oh my goodness, I would LOVE to see The Grisha Trilogy as a movie! I've only read Shadow and Bone, but I know I will love the next two books as well! And Under the Never Sky is one of my favorites. I can't believe I left this off my list for movie adaptations!
    Wonderful definition of literature!
Thank you so much for stopping by my blog! :D

  7. Yay pictures of kitties! I do this on my blog too. :) Books + kitties = winning combination.

White Hot Kiss was reallt good! I haven't read The Grisha series yet but I've no doubt it would make an amazing movie.

I SO agree about great literature being what makes you feel. Sometimes you can learn so much more from fiction than from non-fiction.

I hope you enjoy Armchair BEA. Here's my Armchair

  9. Yes, reading has to bring joy :) I'm so glad you stopped by my intro-post yesterday and left me a link to yours. I love NA and YA too, even if I read some more adult (read erotica *grins*) stories as well :)
I look forward to getting to know you better this week, Holly. Happy Armchair BEA!

  10. We aren't terribly far apart (I'm in Pensacola, Florida). I say "soda" instead of "Coke" too, and get teased about it sometimes. :) Have a great Armchair BEA!

Hi neighbor-about-4-hours-away! :) I always found it weird for the generic "coke" for all things soda. Glad to have a fellow blogger friend who agrees! Thanks for stopping by Monika!

Oh thank you so much for the like on FB! Being new-er over there I have to get in the habit of posting regularly. You know one of the reasons I love the Sea Breeze series is because of its story location! Even if it is made up - it's pretty close to the true beauty of the white sandy beaches found on the Alabama coast and the Florida gulf side. Boy would I love to run into those hotties!! Thanks for stopping by Rose.

I couldn't agree more (books + kitties = winning combo!) One of the joys I had with my fur baby who passed Jan of 2013 (Luckie Bear) was our snuggles on the couch while I was reading. He was the best reading buddy! (tear) Thanks for stopping by!

Ha! It was a southern thing I just couldn't pick up (even though I was born and raised in the south).
