Summary:
Luke Boone doesn't know exactly what his uncle Rust is involved in but he wants in on it-the cars, the money, the women. And it looks like he's finally getting his wish. When Rust hands him the managerial keys to the garage, they come with a second set-one that opens up the door to tons of cash and opportunity. Though it's not exactly legal, Luke's never been one to worry about that sort of thing. Especially when it puts him behind the wheel of a Porsche 911 and onto the radar of gorgeous socialite named Rain.

Clara Bertelli is at the top of her game-at only twenty-six years old, she's one of the most successful undercover officers in the Washington D.C. major crime unit, and she's just been handed a case that could catapult her career and expose one of the west coast's most notorious car theft rings. But, in order to do it, she'll need to go deep undercover as Rain Martines. Her target? The twenty-four-year old nephew of a key player who appears ready to follow in his uncle's footsteps.

As Clara drifts deeper into the luxurious lifestyle of Rain, and further into the arms of her very attractive and charming target, the lines between right and wrong start to blur, making her wonder if she'll be able to leave it all behind. Or if she'll even want to.
MY REVIEW:
This story follows the POV's of Rain (aka Clara) and Luke. Clara is an uncover officer in the D.C. area with aspirations of becoming an FBI agent. She's given the opportunity to go undercover as Rain and grab the attention of the nephew of the FBI's target who is rumored to run a car theft ring in Portland. Clara has to make some hard decisions and cross some blurred lines that are not altogether ethical given her line of work. What starts out as merely a job in pursuit of her ultimate career goal, she doesn't take into account that perhaps this nephew has more redeeming qualities than the average criminal. And she certainly doesn't take into account the possibility of developing actual feelings for him.

Luke, meanwhile, is being groomed by his uncle to take over running one of his legit businesses, a car garage. He knows, given all the money and toys his uncle seems to have and throws Luke's way, that he more than likely is involved in some form of criminal activity as well. Until now though, his uncle has never come out and admitted to anything illegal. Luke is also faced with making hard decisions to get what he wants. The decision to turn a blind eye toward certain crimes, since he isn't hurting anybody so that he can live a luxurious life that he sees his uncle and other business associates living, becomes harder once Rain weaves herself into his life.

My one frustration, personal preference, seeing as how I love my books to be happily-ever-after type stories is that I also don't like for my happily-ever-after to happen within the last few pages of the story. I would've liked to have spent just a tad more time in the reconciled happy moments before the end of the story.

Otherwise a fast and enjoyable read!

This was the forth book I've read by K.A. Tucker, the first two being Ten Tiny Breaths and In Her Wake, so I knew I would more than likely love this story as well. If you enjoyed those books, then you'll want to read these!

Check out my review of book one, Burying Water.

  1. I picked this book up at BEA because I've heard such good things about KA Tucker, but then I got a little nervous. I'm glad you enjoyed this one.
