Summary:
A suspense-driven New Adult romance novel from the USA TODAYbestselling author of Ten Tiny Breaths and Burying Water.

Armed with two years’ worth of savings and the need to experience life outside the bubble of her Oregon small town, twenty-five-year old Amber Welles is prepared for anything. Except dying in Dublin. Had it not been for the bravery of a stranger, she might have. But he takes off before she has the chance to offer her gratitude.

Twenty-four-year-old River Delaney is rattled. No one was supposed to get hurt. But then that American tourist showed up. He couldn’t let her die, but he also can’t be identified at the scene—so, he fled. Back to his everyday life of running his family’s pub. Only, everyday life is getting more and more complicated, thanks to his brother, Aengus, and his criminal associations. When the American girl tracks River down, he quickly realizes how much he likes her, how wrong she is for him. And how dangerous it is to have her around. Pushing her away would be the smart move.

Maybe it’s because he saved her life, or maybe it’s because he’s completely different from everything she’s left behind, but Amber finds herself chasing after River Delaney. Amber isn’t the kind of girl to chase after anyone.

And River isn’t the kind of guy she’d want to catch.
MY REVIEW:
This story follows the POV's of Amber, who we meet in book one, Burying Water, and River Delaney. Amber is the sister of Jesse Welles, and nurse who helped with the recovery of Water (aka Alex). We learned when we first were introduced to her that she had been saving and planning for a year off to travel around Europe.

Aspects I loved: Ireland setting, Irish accent, River - the bad boy who falls for girl who is too good for him, knight in shining rugged armor. You might not enjoy the "insta-love" that occurs within just a week's time between these two, but regardless of where your feelings fall on that theme in a book, there's no denying the chemistry between River and Amber. Is it love? Nah, I don't think so. Admiration, lust, strong like, deeper connection, there are definitely all of those things present. So that's why it doesn't bother me when in a story you see such a fast development of feelings. I do believe in real life feelings develop quickly between two people who are just that right for each other. I enjoyed seeing Amber's small world view turn into something more realistic as she experiences things she's never done and/or felt before. I enjoyed seeing how she would react when there's more gray area than just black or white.

I also enjoyed seeing a bit more of the angry, tattoo covered Ivy. As book 4, Surviving Ice is about her story it was a great lead in to weave more of her into Amber's story.

This was the fifth book I've read by K.A. Tucker, the first two being Ten Tiny Breaths and In Her Wake, so I knew I would more than likely love this story as well. If you enjoyed those books, then you'll want to read these!

Check out my review of book one, Burying Water  and book two, Becoming Rain.

Favorite Quotes:
"Her father was a doctor. He could have been a king, and he could have been a pauper, and he'd still be right about thing: that I was never good enough for her. But luckily I was smart enough to realize that, and never stop trying to be the man she deserved." ... "Ya remember that, pretty lass. And maybe give the shoe shiner a second look."

"...nobody's without fault, and some of that fault can get pretty ugly. But you shouldn't hold it against someone if it's in his past."

I may still be Amber Welles to my core, but my life has been irrevocably changed by this man and I can't pretend otherwise.

"And then I want to come back here, light all these candles and tell you you a story about a lowly Irish peasant bartender who falls in love with a beautiful American princess."
