Summary:
Lowen Ashleigh is a struggling writer on the brink of financial ruin when she accepts the job offer of a lifetime. Jeremy Crawford, husband of bestselling author Verity Crawford, has hired Lowen to complete the remaining books in a successful series his injured wife is unable to finish.

Lowen arrives at the Crawford home, ready to sort through years of Verity's notes and outlines, hoping to find enough material to get her started. What Lowen doesn't expect to uncover in the chaotic office is an unfinished autobiography Verity never intended for anyone to read. Page after page of bone-chilling admissions, including Verity's recollection of what really happened the day her daughter died.

Lowen decides to keep the manuscript hidden from Jeremy, knowing its contents would devastate the already grieving father. But as Lowen's feelings for Jeremy begin to intensify, she recognizes all the ways she could benefit if he were to read his wife's words. After all, no matter how devoted Jeremy is to his injured wife, a truth this horrifying would make it impossible for him to continue to love her.

A standalone romantic thriller from #1 New York Times bestselling author Colleen Hoover, releasing December 18th.
MY REVIEW:
I'd like to see a virtual show of hands for how many people finished Verity and said or thought "what on EARTH did I just read?!" This is one brilliantly scary, provactive, crazy, suspenseful, delusional story! My mind was all over the place trying to guess certain pieces, which I did, but I think that's intentional because Lowen, the main character, is doing the same thing.

It's also safe to say that I'm a scaredy-cat. There were 3-4 moments when my skin tingled with goosebumps and the hair on my arms raised and my heart raced. I even scared myself while in the shower one morning because of those scenes. This book made me all kinds of nervous! This is why I don't usually read or watch horror, thriller or suspense. But ya'll, this is Colleen Hoover! I couldn't NOT read it!!! I also couldn't put it down!

I don't feel there's much I can say without being spoilery and I don't want to do that. So I'm going to be vague and short on purpose.

This sentence from the book wraps up my exact thoughts perfectly:

"Which truth was she manipulating?"

Your mind will be blown by this book! You won't necessarily cry and your heart won't ache the way most of Colleen's romance books tend to make us feel. But you will feel you've entered a realm of dark depravity that you really don't want to consider as truth. There in lies the genuis of this story: What exactly is truth and what is the lie? Which manipulation is the worst one?

This book gets 5 stars from me, not because I was so touched emotionally like Colleen's books tend to do. No, this book gets 5 stars because of its brilliance equalled with moral depravity and the crazy train the entire story had my brain on, when many times I wanted off of, but couldn't stop!

Top Favorite Quotes:
You can't lok at someone the way he looked at me - with the entirety of his past - without also imagining the future.

Take care of your physical being. Feed it what it needs, what the conscience tells you it wants. Giving in to cravings of the mind that ultimately hurt the body is like a weak parent giving in to her child.

If an attraction is present between two people, those two people can only be one of two things. Involved or not involved. There is no in-between.

  1. I felt sick most of the time that I was reading this book. But wow it was good. I would suggest going into the Verity discussion group on facebook. The things that some of these people think happened were nothing like what I thought happened.
