*ARC* The Wager - Review

Image
The Wager (The Bet #2) By: Rachel Van Dyken Published: October 1, 2013 by Forever 256 pages Source: Netgalley ARC, from publisher (Thanks!) ( Goodreads / Amazon  $.99 / Book Depository ) Summary: Lose a bet, lose your heart... What is it about a junior-high crush that can send an otherwise intelligent woman into a tailspin? TV reporter Char Lynn wishes she knew. Jake Titus is too rich, too handsome, too arrogant: a trifecta that once lured Char into the best night-and worst morning-after-of her life. Now they've been thrown together in a wedding party. It's awkward, but survivable . . . until Jake stops acting like a jerk, and starts acting like the man she'd always hoped he could be. If watching your brother marry your best friend is weird, being attracted to your best friend's other best friend is downright bizarre. Unfortunately for Jake, Char hasn't forgotten how he once tossed her aside. Worse still, Jake's already-nutty grandma is even ...

Guest Post & Giveaway by Terra Harmony: Books or Movies? Which are better?

Guest Post by Terra Harmony Books or Movies? Which are better? First a big thank you to Holly for hosting me on her blog! Show hands; who liked the Harry Potter movies better than the books? What about the Twilight series? Hunger Games? Oh - what about Mortal Instruments? Chances are (especially because this is a book blog), most people are going with the book. I am with you. Take Hunger Games for example. They included most events from the book, and they were even spot on with what I imagined the characters to be. But something was off. I didn't get caught up emotionally with the movie as I did in the books (and I have yet to see Catching Fire, just so you know - hope it is a little better). Films introduce new worlds - in intricate detail. They show us everything, even some things the book can't or doesn't. And I love going to movies, sitting in the dark with a giant tub of popcorn and just getting lost in the storyline. But the one thing a film doesn...

Carter Reed - Review

Image
Carter Reed By: Tijan Published: September 28, 2013 302 pages Source: Personal Kindle Library ( Goodreads / Amazon )   Summary: Emma decided to skip the gym and went home early. It was the last easy decision she made because she found her roommate being raped by the boyfriend. She had two choices. Call the cops and be killed by his family’s mafia connections or kill him first and hope to survive. There was no choice to her. She killed him first and went to the one person who could protect her. Carter Reed. He’s a weapon for the rivaling mafia family, but he’s also Emma’s secret. Not only was he best friends with her brother, but she’s the reason he became that weapon in the first place. MY REVIEW: I can't believe I'm about to discuss this, however briefly, on here (because I've chosen not to get involved in all the opinions about it) but this book was annoyingly similar to Fifty Shades of Grey  in a few ways that I must get off my chest first.  The overb...
