Armchair BEA Day 3: part 2 Expanding Blogging Horizons
Welcome to Day 3 of Armchair BEA 2014.
Today's topic I'm participating in is
Expanding Blogging Horizons
"What do you think about when you think about going beyond blogging or expanding your horizons? Is it a redesign of your blog? Have you branched out into freelance writing or even published a novel of your very own? Or, have you moved into a different venue like podcasts or vlogging? This is the day to tell us about how you have expanded on blogging in your own unique way."
I certainly can't take any credit for this AT ALL, but I wanted to plug it anyway. Many of you know that I have a sister-n-law who also blogs (she was my reason for starting my blog). Sandy and I talked a great deal last year about wanting to cohost some kind of challenge or read-a-thon or event to get connected with other bloggers. Who knew coming up with an idea that seemed even half way original would be sooooo difficult! Being the programmer by day that she is, Sandy created the details and the 2014 Series Ender Reading Challenge was born! Her husband created our button and as they say, the rest is history, at least recent history, as in 5 months.
For our first time co-hosting an event, I think it's going really well! We have 19 participants thus far and every month people are knocking out those last books in a series. You can still join up - all the way through December. Go check it out! (Psst - there's a giveaway each month for those who link up reviews).
I do have 2 unique features on my blog.
ARC Thursday
I created the ARC Thursday feature in September of 2013 to help me read through the ARC's I receive in a more timely manner because I was falling way behind. I don't get bogged down now with only being able to read ARC's because I only post these reviews on Thursday's. So that leaves Monday's for a review of my choice. Who knows....maybe I'll turn this into a meme where others can participate too.
From Books to Movies
I found this button on another blog when searching for an image when I decided to start this feature. I credit that blog every time I do one of these posts. Why recreate something that has already been done well?
I love movies almost as much as I love books. And I REALLY love when they turn books I enjoy into a movie or a show - most of the time. Yes, sometimes it gets slaughtered and I end up hating the show or movie adaptation. But overall, it's very exciting to see a book come to life on the big screen. So I use this feature to showcase books coming to a movie and my movie review after I've seen it. This is a relatively new feature for me.
Aside from these things I haven't really expanded my blogging horizons into anything else. I don't have a strong desire to be a writer myself....although my daughter and I have played around with some ideas for a children's book series. Maybe one day that will become more of a reality. For now, I'm content reading and reviewing and writing for my blog.
How did you answer this question?
