Summary:
Love is ugly and secrets will destroy you.MY REVIEW:
KAT
I don’t beg.
I don’t cry.
And I don’t give second chances.
Ream, the lead guitarist of the rock band Tear Asunder, deserves a gold medal for best crap move ever when he ran the moment he discovered my secret after two incredible days together. Then he brings some chick to my coming home party from the hospital—after being shot.
I hate him.
Until …
Ream’s six foot two frame unfolds out of the car after being gone on tour for eight months. I stared. And in my defense, any girl would stare. It would almost be rude not to because Ream was the type of guy who stood out. Not because he was loud and obnoxious. No, it was because he was the complete opposite. Subtle and dangerously quiet. If he spoke, you’d better hope he liked you because otherwise you’d be falling at his feet begging for mercy. Except me … I don’t beg—ever.
But when our eyes locked, it was Ream’s steady confidence that had my nerves shooting off like jet sprinklers.
Then…
Ream told me he didn’t need a second chance because he was still working on his first.
REAM
Sex is ugly. It’s using someone for your own narcissistic pleasure. I did it, but hated it—until her. She was unexpected. Then I had to wreck our beginning with my screwed up past. I don’t deserve her, but I’m selfish and I’m taking her anyway. This is who I am and it’s too late to change me.

A contemporary romance with lots of angst.
Book two in the Tear Asunder series follows the lead guitarist in the Tear Asunder rock band, Ream, and Kat. Ream and Kat became friends over a two week period of bonding when Emily and Sculpt were both missing (Torn From You). At the end of their short lived friendship they gave in to their physical desires for one long, heat filled weekend, only to have it come crashing down by a misunderstanding. Now, nearly 3 years later they are faced with being around each other again. The band is home from a tour and they are staying at the farm where Kat lives and works. Kat and Ream went from being friends, to hating each other, with a heavy dose of sexual tension constantly surrounding them. But now, Kat's seeing someone else and Ream has changed a lot since he's been gone....and well, he won't take "no" for an answer when Kat is the only woman he wants.
I love the first sentence in the summary: "Love is ugly and secrets will destroy you". As I've mentioned in other contemporary romance book reviews, one key plot point is always the secrets that one or both characters are keeping and how their secrets end up destroying their relationship. Ream has a doozy of a secret from his past.
This series is considered dark romance, so the subjects it deals with are very dark, twisted even, and heavy in nature. I love how there are lots of twists and turns with these characters. There are definitely moments that happen that I wasn't expecting....and in a genre where there are lots of predictable moments - and this series has some of those too, there's also a good bit that throws a kink in what you thought was coming.
Warning: This series has graphic sexual content, strong language - and is borderline erotica, IMO.
Favorite Quotes:
Friends stuck by one another, he obviously couldn't do that. And that was the most important quality I needed in a relationship - any relationship.
"Fire playing with fire only leads to an uncontrollable inferno. You ready for that, Kitkat?"
"Copious-orgasm-Lance, off-his-rocker-Ream is on his way back up."
I didn't believe love could be stopped. You could run from it, hide, and cover it up with other emotions, but love didn't give you a choice.
I hated him for what he did, but love didn't die in a moment's reckoning. Love was too powerful to just vanish.
Final Rating - 4 stars
